Fylde Sand Dunes

Bonjour!

As it's a bit (a lot) rainy today a blast from the past is very much needed in the form of Hal's first ever trip to the beach! He, and I, absolutely loved it! So many new smells and objects to sniff, lick and even chew - we soon realised seashells aren't actually that tasty and the waves are impossible to eat...

We have since often visited the sand dunes near Lytham St. Anne's when we stay with family and pups in the North West. Half of the beach is dog friendly and recently loads of doggy bins have been put along the fencing which is really handy and means you don't have to carry your pups gift around for the entire walk! Hal absolutely loves the sand dunes because we actually let him go off his lead and run free - his recall isn't that great and I don't fancy losing the pup! He has found many other friendly pups to play and run with and all dog owners are super friendly too.

The sand dunes are also big on nature conservation, using old Christmas trees as defences to catch blowing sand. They often hold events such as beach clean ups and mud dipping in rock pools. They take part in National Marine Week and hold beach art competitions for children too!

My favourite part of the sand dunes is when we reach the big sand hills where the sand has been gathered together by the tractors and diggers, the best and biggest seashells are always at the top. The pups also love running up and down and it really is a work out for us all! A warning though, I always assumed they were safe until my last visit when another dog walker said she was unsure how compact these hills were and if they were safe to walk up, so be careful!!

All in all, a great dog walk but wrap up warm and be prepared for a sandy, mucky pup by the end!
