Another day in lockdown so let's look back to last summer when we could all move freely and be within 2 metres of each other...
Last summer, after our grown up holiday to Mexico, we took to the pup on a week holiday in the Lake District! Lucky for us, a friend's relative owns a lodge on Lowther Caravan Park so we stayed there, with our friend and his black lab Marvel.
We went on a few days and walks out but this post is dedicated to Aira Force! I will admit I hadn't heard of it before but it did not disappoint. It's part of the National Trust, so if you're a member (which we are) car parking is free! Now due to Covid, National Trust had to close their parks and land to make sure we all stayed at home, but as of 26th May 2020, they are reopening the car park. Their website states you need to book in advance, otherwise you'll be turned away.
When we visited last summer, the main car park at the bottom of the waterfall (with the dog friendly tea room!) was absolutely rammed. If you've been to a National Trust spot on a weekend you'll know what I mean!! In the end, we drove round to the top car park which was smaller but much quieter and parked with no problems. We also managed to go on one of the rainy days, so waterproofs were a must, as well as proper shoes - some people had been caught out in their nicer trainers or sandals and were clearly regretting it.
The waterfall itself is amazing and gives you plenty of photo opportunities along the trail. There are plenty of old, old trees with carvings, and have grown into fun shapes, to also take pictures of if you like trees!
Hal and Marvel loved it, anything with water and those two are happy! At the top of the waterfall, there is a plateau area where you can paddle, so two very smiley pups! There were plenty of dogs about so we kept Hal on his lead as he can't be trusted not to run off and annoy some other poor pup.
The tea room is found at the bottom of the waterfall near the main car park, along with toilets. We bought some sandwiches, crisps and chocolate and sat outside as the tea room was very busy, but signs did say that your dogs were allowed inside too.
A lovely, photographic, dog friendly gem in the Lake District, worth a morning or afternoon adventure!
